White Tower in Mulegns: Lighting Control for the World's First 3D-Printed Concrete Tower
In Switzerland's smallest village of Mulegns, Graubünden, the groundbreaking White Tower stands as a global architectural milestone — the first 3D-printed concrete tower, developed in collaboration with ETH Zurich.
Visual Productions lighting control sits at the heart of this innovation, delivering seamless atmospheric effects that highlight the tower's unique design. Light serves multiple roles here: showcasing the architecture, providing orientation in the alpine landscape, and creating versatile moods — from subtle ambient glow to dramatic event staging.
The lighting scenes and sequences were initially developed and programmed for the project using a grandMA3 system. For long-term operation, however, these are accessed and controlled via Visual Productions' control solutions. The solution from Visual Productions bridges different worlds: architectural lighting with DALI fixtures, event technology with DMX control, and other interfaces such as 0–10 V. This allows all lighting systems to be centrally coordinated and flexibly controlled.
The result is transformative. The White Tower fluidly switches between architectural illumination, stage-like drama, and public space functionality — all with simple, user-friendly operation. Light truly connects past heritage with future innovation, making architecture, events, and community spaces feel like one harmonious experience.

The creative signature of Tokyoblue

Serge Schmuki of Tokyoblue emphasises that collaboration with menzi ebz is a key component of many joint projects. It is not only technical expertise that plays a central role here, but also continuous dialogue and reliable support during implementation: "The added value provided by qualified specialist staff and joint technical implementation is particularly evident on site."
This strength is particularly evident in projects such as Mulegns: lighting is not merely considered in functional terms, but as an integral part of the architecture and its use. This results in solutions that combine design quality, technical integration and intuitive usability.
