City Lighting Leidschendam, The Netherlands
The Vliet river, crossing the city of Leidschendam-Voorburg in The Netherlands, attracts lots of tourists. Two churches, historical buildings and facades, a water station, statues and an old wind mill are situated along this Vliet river. Already in 2016 it was decided that these beautiful objects should be lit in order to attract even more people, especially during spring and autumn season. A combination of white and RGBW lighting and static LED gobo projectors were chosen while the main control system was based on Visual Productions lighting controllers. Because of private and public funding took time, completion of the project took about 4 years . Lighting control is split into a main redundant system and local control systems, including CueCores2, IoCores, RDMSplitters, Kiosc and W-DMX gear.

The main lighting control system generates 1 DMX universe, distributed to 7 local lighting control systems. 50 DMX channels are allocated to each location. The system is redundant, with both CueCores2 running the same schedule. CueCore2 A is merged with priority, CueCore2 B functions as a hot spare. The merger output is distributed to a W-DMX transmitter, a DMX test output, an IoCore and to the building's local lighting control system. The IoCore detects the presence/absence of DMX at the merger output, controlling 'system status' indicator lights and OSC and Slack messaging to both CueCores2 in case the system status changes. An Uninterrupted Power Supply ensures 24/7 reliability.

The local lighting control system receives the W-DMX signal which is fed into an RDMSplitter. Splitter outputs are connected to an IoCore and available for connecting DMX controlled fixtures. As in the main system, the IoCore detects the presence/absence of DMX at the W-DMX receiver output, controlling 'system status' indicator lights. The IoCore also uses its GPO outputs to control external power relays. These relays switch non-DMX (white light) luminaires and LED projectors.

Number and type of components in the various local lighting control cabinets vary. Some cabinets are powered by public lighting 230V AC, others by permanent 230V AC.

Although the system usually runs 24/7 unattended off the advanced scheduler, a multi page Kiosc layout has been created to provide manual control. A status page shows system condition, scheduled/manual indication and active colour scheme with feedback tightly integrated with CueCores2 and IoCores. Main locations do have their own Kiosc page with switches, faders and colour pickers for manual operation.
