Canvix is a software lighting console dedicated to control matrix arrangements of LED and dimmer fixtures.
The Canvix Matrix Server runs on a Windows computer and is capable of controlling large quantities of lights via the DMX-512 or Art-Net protocol. The software features an intuitive user interface with a realistic lighting console look-and-feel, specially designed to make the lighting operator feel at home. The interface allows you to rapidly set up hundreds of fixtures and patch them into a matrix formation; in no-time at all you will be rendering all Canvix’ patterns, effects and low-res video on your matrix.
With the growing number of matrix applications in entertainment lighting, special consideration has been made to make Canvix integrate seamlessly with traditional lighting desks. You can easily link Canvix to your favorite console and operate and program Canvix’ pixel mapping functions via DMX or MIDI.
Although Canvix is designed for the robustness required for ‘on the road’ touring jobs, it also has specific features for architectural and other fixed installation projects, in for example bars and clubs. The product range offers a fool-proof touch screen user interface, password protection and even GPI and GPO modules for interconnecting to external equipment.
You can download the Canvix Matrix Server today and explore the unique possibilities to control your show with this feature-rich pixel mapper.
INTUITIVE USER INTERFACE
Canvix' user interface is set in night vision colours and is 100% touch screen compatible, enabling any function in the software to be operated by touch screen in a fast and hands-on style. The control elements in the software emulate those commonly used in traditional lighting boards giving an intuitive user interface that enables all operators to quickly be in control.
COMPATIBLE WITH 3RD PARTY LIGHTING BOARDS
Canvix is designed in a plug-and-play fashion allowing the easy connection to a third party lighting board if desired. With a DMX Input the user can simply use Canvix as a fully functional matrix plug-in for their traditional lighting board. Personality files for Canvix are available for all industry standard boards.
4 PLAYBACK LAYERS
The operation of Canvix is similar to that of a media server, utilizing 4 playback layers and an unlimited library of graphics. Any of the layers can be set to playback any of the graphics, allowing the operator to let his creativity freely flow and create infinite combinations. All playback functions are directly accessible via the graphical user interface and the DMX Input.
COMPUTER GENERATED PATTERNS & TEXT
Canvix allows you to render text and to create patterns in popular graphic formats like BMP and GIF. Next to these functions Canvix is supplied with customisable computer generated patterns, including dynamic and creative effects which automatically adapt to the dimension of the current matrix and can be adjusted during playback to change the colours and various other parameters.
MODULAR HARDWARE
The Canvix software works in conjunction with hardware interfaces to create the DMX signal. The optically isolated hardware features both DMX Output and DMX Input devices that are connected through USB. The hardware is scalable, allowing you to add more units as your matrix requirements grow.

Duple
The Duple is the basic hardware interface that enables VisualDMX and Canvix control software to send and receive DMX signal used in professional lighting.
The USB connected Duple has both a DMX-512 output port and an input port. The DMX output transmits 512 channels of DMX, effectively turning your personal computer into a full-size lighting controller when running the VisualDMX or Canvix software.
Both DMX ports are ESD protected and fully compliant to the new DMX standard. The optically isolated DMX input port receives 512 channels of DMX. When connected to a third party DMX console, each channel can be used to control any function in the lighting control software. Multiple Duples can be connected to your computer to create a large multi-universe system.
Art-Net Dongle
The Visual Productions Art-Net Dongle enables the Art-Net output in Canvix and VisualDMX. The Dongle is available in various sizes, e.g. 2, 4, 8 and 12 universes, and allows for future capacity upgrades. The Art-Net Dongle can be used in combination with the Duple USB devices.
The Art-Net protocol is very well suited for configurations with many universes and thousands of DMX channels. It saves you from having to attach a large number of USB connected DMX Outputs to your computer. With a large number of universes, the Art-Net communication uses noticeably less computer resources then USB communication.
Art-Net is the current industry standard for sending DMX information over Ethernet. By utilizing Art-Net various third-party Art-Net equipment like DMX-converters and switches will be at your disposal.
GPI
Visual Productions’ GPI (General Purpose Input) interface allows external signals to be connected to VisualDMX and Canvix. Our lighting control programs are then able to be triggered by these signals to create a fully automated lighting control system.
The GPI is intended for fixed installations where our lighting control software can be interconnected to other equipment, mechanical switches or sensors. The GPI is designed with installers and system integrators in mind; it features a DIN-Rail enclosure that allows easy mounting of the unit. All connections have detachable screw-connectors for a quick replacement of the unit.
The GPI features 8 contact-closure input ports and is USB powered. The function of the input ports can be freely programmed within VisualDMX and Canvix, allowing you to trigger any software function.
Additionally, the GPI is fitted with a MIDI and DMX-512 output. The GPI can operate standalone, converting its digital inputs to the industry-standard MIDI and DMX communication signals, making the unit more versatile and allowing it to be used for general automation.
GPO
The GPO (General Purpose Output) device enables the VisualDMX and Canvix lighting control programs to be interfaced with external equipment. This technology will allow you to complement your VisualDMX or Canvix system with more equipment even when these do not feature a protocols like DMX.
The GPO is intended for fixed installations where the need for interfacing our lighting control software with other equipment regularly arises. The GPO is designed with installers and system integrators in mind; it features a DIN-Rail enclosure that allows easy mounting of the unit. All connections have detachable screw-connectors for a quick replacement of the unit.
The GPO features 8 contact-closure output ports and is USB connected. The function of the output ports can be freely programmed within VisualDMX and Canvix, allowing it to be triggered from software function.
Additionally, the GPO is fitted with a MIDI and DMX-512 input. The GPO can operate standalone, converting its the industry-standard MIDI and DMX communication signals to its digital outputs, making the unit more versatile and allowing it to be used for general automation.
