CueCores control Kijk: Jan Schoonhoven exhibition

Thursday 26. of November 2015

The prestigious Prinsenhof Museum in the Dutch city of Delft, recently opened it's doors to an enlightening exhibition, "Kijk",  celebrating the work of Dutch artist Jan Schoonhoven.  During the 1950's and 1960's Schoonhoven's work explored the effect of light and shadow on self formed materials.

Frank Hulsebosch is the lighting designer of the exhibition. He has applied dynamic lighting in two places. Hulsebosch got Dutch based company, Lichtpunt, to provide the lighting installation for this exhibition.  Lichtpunts Sander Bloem carried out the installation using 2 of the Dutch manufacturer, Visual Productions' solid-state CueCores for control.

Bloem installed two setups in answer to the brief to demonstrate Schoonhoven's work.  One setup is in a light simulator using 4 ETC Source Four LED mini profiles focused on a mock-up of his work.  The fixtures are programmed with the CueCore.  He programmed, using the onboard command-line programmer, 5 cues switching the fixtures at different angles across 4 "zones" of the mock-up in 9 second fades.  Each "zone" stays lit for 5 seconds before taking the viewers attention to the next area. The cues are triggered, via the schedular, in the Action editor of the CueCore.

In the second set-up Schoonhoven's original art is hung and lit in the gallery. 24 CLS Focus LED fixtures are used.  These are each individually controlled via DMX with the CueCore.  In this install the CueCore is programmed with 2 cues with a 4 second fade between each.  These are scheduled to run in a slow moving sequence lasting 1 minute.  In this way Hulsebosch has designed the lights to fade across the angles of the work.  This is so subtle that the viewer only realises the transition when the cycle starts again.

Bloem states "The realisation of Hulsebosh's design was made easy with the implementation of the CueCores."  A regular user of the Visual Productions control solutions Bloem says " yet again I was able to program an instal in a fast, fluid and reliable manner with the use of these two CueCores.  The fact that they are solid-state gives the museum trust in the setup which they activate on "power-up" in the museum each day."  The exhibition visitors get to experience how the light effects the angles formed in the relief works of Schoonhoven, thus seeing and understanding the subtleties and beauty of his work.

Belgium: FACE installs Cuelux for event venue

Wednesday 14. of October 2015

Multi purpose event location Eskapade in Kapellen recently invested in a brand new audio and lighting system.

Eskapade is a multi functional event venue, located in Kapellen near Antwerp.

The venue is primarily used as a location for parties, performances and local events and has a flexible character, meaning it's equally suitable to host a presentation, a concert, or a party with a DJ.

With this vision in mind, the Community of Kapellen's Department of Youth, opted to upgrade their entire sound and lighting system and called upon Visual Productions' Belgium distrbutor, FACE for the job.

Jeroen Willems - FACE Account manager explains: "We wanted to keep the flexibility of the venue while providing them with a great sounding system and a lighting solution which is very straightforward to operate but still powerful enough to create an attractive visual experience. With the new setup we've successfully done just that.

Visually we expanded the existing lighting system, to created a more immersive experience; Both the stage and DJ Booth are brought to life by 6 Oxo 18MB LED washes.

The combination of the existing and new  fixtures allow operators to create dynamic colour effects and vary between the respectively wide and narrow beams of the fixtures.

The light setup is plugged into a new Oxo DMX splitter and for control we run Visual Production's Cuelux on a touch computer.

Cuelux has a super friendly interface, so basic users can select presets to instantly change the room's look and feel, while more advanced operators still have the freedom to create dynamic visual experiences.

Although we've swapped the venue's mobile rig, for a fixed installation, we were able to maintain the room's flexible character.

They can continue to host events of various sizes, whether it's a party, presentation, or live performance. We look forward to seeing some great events there."
