New dealer for Belgium
Earlier this month we supported our new dealer in Belgium, Quiet and Shadow at the ACF tradeshow on their companies stand. The relationship between Visual Productions and Quiet and Shadow began in September this year when the Belgium Sales company was still under the name of the Blue Squares Group.
The sales team, in particular Guillaume Canart and Jeroen Carette were keen to take on the Visual Productions product range as Canvix dedicated matrix control falls nicely in line with their customers’ needs, especially rental and event markets. VisualDMX lighting control software facilitates the expansion into product sales within the installation market for Quiet and Shadow. As Carette confirmed Visual Productions “offers to all operators and installers a possibility to work out great lighting control solutions at an affordable price.”
During ACF Maarten Engels, director of Visual Productions, stated that he was “delighted to meet Quiet and Shadows’ first customer for Canvix Matrix Control: GSF Sonorisation” and to hear about “the 2 VisualDMX installation projects that Carette is supplying to the LED specialist company RGB-LED Lightin' Art.” With the obvious dedication already shown by Quiet and Shadow to the Visual Productions products, Engels said that he “feels confident in appointing them as the new dealer for Belgium.”

VisualDMX installed in Club Zuri
Knokke is considered to be the most exclusive beach resort in Belgium; it certainly does well in attracting the Belgium jet-set. Positioned right at the North Sea beach, the casino - one of Knokke’s hot-spots itself - features the recently refurbished Zuri club.
Zuri is a lounge bar with a breathtaking appearance. Interior designer Gerd Couckhuyt created a new dimension inside the venue. Completely coloured in white, the interior makes you imagine being aboard a futuristic space craft. As the sun sets, sliding doors and the wall behind the bar will open up allowing the evening to flow into the larger venue of Zuri; effectively transforming from a lounge bar into a trendy nightclub. The features that Couckhuyt has put into his design are striking, with highly polished attention to detail for the entire space; interior and exterior. Ranging from the outdoor furniture to the DJ booth and from the shapes of the LED fixtures to the lavatories, you’ll find the Zuri design in each and every one of them.
Architectural and entertainment lighting specialist Lux Lumen was commissioned to supply the lighting fixtures and control; the equipment was installed by Verscheure Domotica. They fitted the club with custom designed LED fixtures that now characterize the Zuri dance floor. Alongside additional LED units, they also installed a large number of the Modular halogen fixtures that produce a warm contrast to the trendy LEDs.
Visual Productions’ VisualDMX was selected for the club’s lighting control. The control software is installed with two USB connected DMX Outputs to reach the required channel count for the 270 LED pixels plus various dimmer racks. Key to this VisualDMX set-up is the touch screen computer running the VisualTouch software. VisualTouch offers click-and-go touch screen control of all programmed cues within VisualDMX. This allows even non-technical staff members to operate the lighting.
Rudi Antonissen from Lux Lumen reflects on their choice for VisualDMX: “We have looked for the best possible lighting controller that would still be affordable. VisualDMX’ inbuilt matrix controller was also an important criteria for this project; it allows us to map all LED fixtures into a matrix and then run 2-dimensional effects on them. It would have been an endless task to manually program each pixel one by one.”
Couckhuyt goes on to explain more about the thoughts behind the lighting equipment: “Our objective for the club’s effect lighting was to come up with a fixture that by itself was already appealing to look at during the day. Then to have a control system that from the evenings on adds effects and dynamics to the fixtures. Furthermore, the control has to be intuitive; although we always have a dedicated lighting operator, this will be creative person rather than technician.”
After spending quite some time with the VisualDMX system himself during the Zuri’s busy maiden summer season, Couckhuyt notes that: “We gave Lux Lumen carte blanche regarding their choice for a control system; we trust them to be up to date with the control technologies available in the market today. When the installation of the fixtures and system was just finished and we saw the result for the first time, we were taken aback by its effect. The system has many more possibilities then we originally expected.”

Visual Productions goes Art-Net
As an alternative to the DMX Output of our lighting software, Canvix dedicated matrix controller and VisualDMX lighting controller are also capable of transmitting the fixtures’ data through the Art-Net protocol. The Art-Net Dongle unlocks the Art-Net output in Canvix and VisualDMX and is available in various sizes, e.g. 2, 4 and 8 universes, also allowing for future capacity upgrades.
The Art-Net protocol is very well suited for configurations with many universes and thousands of DMX channels. A typical application for Canvix is a 50 x 25 LED matrix where in the past you would need to connect a large number of USB connected DMX Outputs to your computer. The Art-Net dongle now saves you from this complexity and gives more efficient control. With a large number of universes, the Art-Net communication uses noticeably less computer resources than USB communication.
The dongle is a useful tool for designers as many 3D lighting visualisers are Art-Net enabled. The Art-Net Dongle will enable you to visualize your VisualDMX and Canvix lighting designs in third-party applications such as Martin ShowDesigner, Cast WYSIWYG (using Wygalizer), ESP Vision and Capture.
Announcing new dealer for Austria
We are pleased to announce the Vienna based company Klangfarbe Sound & Light as a new dealer for our lighting control software products.
Founded in the 1980’s to supply musicians with the newest gear combined with a high level of service and support, Klangfarbe today consists of four divisions E-Guitars, Acoustics, Studio & Keyboards and Sound & Light.
The Sound & Light division focuses on pro-audio and light solutions for installation into, amongst other venues, museums, shops and bars. With their well equipped showroom Klangfarbe is able to make hands on tests for their customers, providing professional solutions for installations. Now with the addition of VisualDMX lighting control software to their product range, says Andreas Prochaska, Light Sales Director, the “seamless integration of a touchscreen and the visualisation tool Visual3D, usually only found in much more expensive gear” gives great opportunities for smart, affordable lighting control. Prochaska’s enthusiasm for VisualDMX is such that with the increasing demand for LED panels in installations he found that “if you ever tried VisualDMX’s Matrix Mania! with LED-Panels you would not want to be without it any more”.

VisualDMX installed in Space Club Ibiza
The long time established and multi-award winning Space Club Ibiza has recently installed the first VisualDMX lighting control software system on the party island. The system is being used for controlling an eye-catching 24 x 5 LED matrix positioned above the DJ booth and LED lighting, from AVR, around the main venue of the club that aids the atmosphere. A touch screen with the VisualTouch software was also installed for direct access to VisualDMX.
Pedro Comesana, as Production Manager responsible for all audio, video and lighting systems at Space Club Ibiza, states that: “We wanted to create different areas inside the main room: each bar has its own personality and we wanted to keep them all independent, as well as the different parts of the bars (fronts, bottles, walls, etc.). We have also a matrix behind the DJ booth that we want to control, together with the bars and the ambient lighting. VisualTouch is great because once programmed it is very easy to use. Each page is one bar or area, and the last page is all rooms together”. VisualTouch is the touch-screen interface that enables all cues from VisualDMX to be stored in a one-touch selection process, making for a fast, easy and convenient method of control for the busy Space Club technician to effectively utilize.
Pedro Comesana continues: “Following on from earlier research into lighting control systems I decided that Space Club Ibiza would use VisualDMX. Delivery and programming by HC Technologies (the Spanish VisualDMX dealer) incorporated all our requirements.” One touch screen computer, running VisualTouch was installed in the main DJ booth, thereby facilitating easy and direct access to all colours, intensities and area presets. Comesana also stated that the onsite support by Visual Productions during the Grand Opening Party added further “credibility to the opinion that we picked the best system for this job. With top DJs like Carl Cox, John Digweed, Deep Dish and Danny Tenaglia performing in 7 areas and an audience of 19.000 party people this Grand Opening Party 2007 was very successful. VisualDMX fits in well!”
The VisualDMX product family, including VisualTouch and USB-to-DMX devices, is manufactured by Visual Productions. Based in the Netherlands, the company develops lighting control software for intelligent, LED and conventional lights and matrixes, namely in the Installation, Event, and Rental markets.
